My family and I are missionaries, and we rely on our Berkey filter every day for clean drinking and cooking water. Our source is nearly exclusively rainwater which is collected in large tanks beside our house. We're definitely not putting in nicely treated tap water. We wanted to increase our capacity from the standard two "candles" to four, so we ordered this two-pack of replacement filters. They work great. I personally prefer the taste of the water that comes out of these filters to that of the Katadyn filters used by many of my colleagues at their houses.

These filters are why I love my Berkey filtration system so much! I originally bought a Berkey because we lived where our well water was too high in fluoride and heavy metals (we used the white Berkey fluoride filters in conjunction with these black filters). Now we live off-grid in the mountains and collect drinking water from a nearby stream. We always filter it through our Berkey first, to remove any unhealthy organisms or naturally-occurring heavy metal content, and it's the best water I've ever had.

We started with these filters for about 7 Months and water tasted great. Then it started tasting Nasty. I already had these in my closet since I purchased them a few months back. It is not as expensive to go this route. My family loves the water and I get the satisfaction of knowing the water is safe for them to drink. It a win-win for us since everyone now drinks water in the house.

We were on a well with high sulfur content - makes for NASTY HEADACHES (made it feel like our brains were swelling) especially when you are allergic to sulfur. We pulled out the Berkey and within 2 weeks were headache-free after 2 months of suffering. The two filters had worked perfectly, and we have added in 6 more (we have a family of 10, so lots of water needed). What I've found is we do get slime on the filters and you know it is building because the water filtration decreases. About every 6 weeks I take them out and clean them carefully, reassemble and the filtration works well. The filters themselves work great - if it weren't for the Berkey I would be in serious trouble with the crippling headaches I had from the water here.

Arrived on time and in perfect condition as usual. I bought these as a replacement for the black filters that we have been using. I need 4 so will buy 2 more next month. I do not need to replace my white ones yet, and they work fine for city water. I am stocking the black filters since I do already have a big Berkey; and after spending approximately 60 hours on the internet and company sites, These filters seem to be the best option for purifying viruses along with all the other nasties out of a quantity of water in a reasonable amount of time.

These Berkey filter replacements are great, I really like them. I bought only the black filters simply because I had intended to filter my rain and well water for cooking and drinking purposes and it does a great job cleaning up the rainwater and groundwater even with lots of silt, sludge, and discoloring. I will order the white filters for tap water very soon, and I am sure it will be just as marvelous.

This is my 3rd set of filters I've ordered. I waited 2 months before posting this review using these filters daily, their flow is still good and have not required a scrubbing with around a 2-gallon daily draw on my 3-gallon tank that refills completely overnight. So far, each set has lasted for a year, passing the dye test every 3 months (though by the end of the year the flow is fairly slow).

Great filters, my second pair in 2 years. I kept them clean and they did the job to the very end, I think they could of gone a little longer over 2 years but the bottom half was too clogged thus causing it to filter half as slow and all the cleaning in the world would not of helped it any. Still, 2 years that's great!
